    The Solution

GSPANN engineers reviewed the company's data and proposed a new data structure that took advantage of inheritance and parent/variant relationships to simplify the creation and maintenance of related products. We carefully implemented the new data structure, keeping the product database current.

The company's products vary only by size, color, or style. Setting up parent/variant product relationships allowed them to take advantage of inheritance, providing the parent product's descriptive fields with the ability to update all its children automatically. This saved time and increased accuracy when maintaining an ever-growing number of SKUs.

Our team also implemented a full taxonomy. Previously, all products used the same fieldset. By setting up a taxonomy, the company could tailor product properties depending on the taxonomy node.

    Business Impact

    • International presence boosted: Because the company sells in multiple markets, having localized properties and descriptions was essential to managing products with a minimum of "locale-specific fields."

    • Faster and cleaner UX: The proper implementation of localization meant that the company no longer needed to replicate descriptive fields for every region it wanted to serve. Instead, a property can store data for all languages, allowing for an overall reduction in fields in the UI and a faster, cleaner UX.
